BIOGRAPHY OF KIRK FRANKLIN

Kirk Franklin is an American gospel artiste and songwriter. He is also a choir director and an author.

Early Life:

Kirk Franklin was born in Dallas Texas, USA on the 26th of January, 1970. He is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. He was abandoned as a baby by his mother and was raised by his aunt ‘Getrude’. She was a hardworker. She recycled aluminium cans for to gather money for Kirk to take piano lessons when he was four, and he excelled in it.

At a tender age of 11, Kirk was already an adult choir director at his church “Mt Rose Baptist Church”. As a teenager, he studied music with Jewel Kelly and the Singing Chaparrals at Oscar Dean White High School. He continued under her authority and later became the pianist for the choir.

Ministry:

As a minister, Kirk Franklin has mostly worked as a choir director. In 1992, he co-founded a gospel group known as “The Humble Hearts”. This group recorded one of Kirk’s compositions that shot him forward and got the attention of a legendary gospel artiste known as Milton Biggham, the musical director of the Georgia Mass Choir. Biggham was impressed and he enlisted Kirk to lead the DFW Mass Choir in one of Kirk’s song “Everyday With Jesus”. Then Biggham hired him to lead the choir at the 1990 Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention. Kirk was just 20 years old at that time.

From 1992 to 2000, Kirk Franklin has released many collaborated tracks, mostly with set of choirs and different gospel artistes. He started a 17-voice choir known as “The Family” in 1992. This team was formed from associates and neighbourhood friends. The name of this group was later changed to “Kirk Franklin and Family” in 1993. They’ve released quite a number of tracks that has topped the Billboard charts. Their songs has also gotten the attention of many, and has led to collaborations with several other gospel choir and musical artistes from several places.

The Team debut album was in 1993 “Kirk Franklin and The Family”. They later released another in 1995, known as “Kirk Franklin and The Family Christmas”, and also Whatcha Lookin’4 in 1996.

Kirk Franklin has also released several other albums and songs. Some of which were recorded with other artistes and others were solo. His songs has gone across many parts of the world and has blessed many lives. He is also a performing artiste, as he had shared stages with several other top gospel artistes across the world.
